Storm Front
In 2007, Storm Front earned the Barbershop Harmony Society's third place bronze medal in International Competition. In 2008, they earned the sixth place finalist pin, which is much less expensive than the wonderful third place medal, though "It does catch the light just right", said Tenor Jeff Selano at the time. Presumably, the drop from third to sixth was due to their umm... expressing their personal opinions about the Society logo and was not meant as a direct reflection of their singing. In 2009, the guys recaptured third place and looked forward to continuing their sure and steady climb - let's see... third, sixth, third... back to sixth in 2010, you'd figure.
Only, Storm Front didn't do the expected, as expected. Instead, they captured the Gold in
Maxx Factor
In April of 2008, we won the Sweet Adelines Region 19 Quartet Championship with a Region 19 history making score, qualifying us for the Sweet Adelines International Quartet Competition in Hawaii, where we placed Fourth out of fifty-two top international quartets. Whew! In April 2009, we won the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweepstakes and then became the National Harmony Sweepstakes Champions in May 2009. In October 2009, we competed in Nashville in the Sweet Adelines International Quartet Competition where we became the 2010 Third Place medalist Quartet. Whew! The quartet then auditioned for the NBC/Sony A Cappella reality show The Sing Off. We were chosen from thousands as one of the eight groups to compete on the first season of the show. With such amazing talent in the competition, we were very fortunate to stay in three out of the four rounds of the competition. What an incredible experience!
Friday, October 22, 2010, in Seattle, MAXX Factor accomplished our biggest goal of winning the 2011 Sweet Adelines International Quartet Championship and becoming “Queens of Harmony!” What an honor!!
MAXX Factor has also been coaching Regional Sweet Adeline quartets and choruses and performing for barbershop and A Cappella audiences from New York to San Francisco. We received a 2010 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award for "Favorite Barbershop Quartet." We have performed for several United States Senators, the Governor of Maryland, the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Ravens, NASCAR and the United States Naval Academy.
Molly, Leslie, Kim and Valerie have been performing and competing together as MAXX Factor since August 2007, but singing and competing in Region 19 top 5 quartets is something we have each been a part of since joining Sweet Adelines. Prior to joining MAXX, thirty year Sweet Adeline member LEAD Leslie Wodday became a Queen of Harmony the first time in 2000 with Signature Sound. Quartet founder BASS Valerie Hadfield-Rasnake is a barbershop brat and has competed with medalist quartets Vanity Fair and Ritz Carleton. MAXX Co-founder BARITONE Kim Hudson, also a barbershop brat, previously competed with Valerie in Vanity Fair. Prior to joining MAXX, TENOR Molly Dalton Plummer competed with multi-medalist quartet RhythmWorks. Molly is a member of the Sweet Adelines International Region 19 medalist chorus the Pride of Baltimore. Kim, Valerie and Leslie, currently Sweet Adelines Chapter-at-Large, have competed internationally with the Pride of Baltimore.
